What IS my Talent?
People often wonder if what they can do IS a talent. what makes something a talent? How can you discover your talent? Here's a little help in finding your unique abilities!
The dictionary defines a talent as: A natural aptitude or skill.
This means your talent could be a number of things! A natural skill for speed skating or being able to hold your breath for elongated periods of time! Realizing your talent can be hard for some and easy for others, it's just about finding what you do well at and can succeed in. Your talent doesn't have to relate to a sport or something you could make a career out of, it's just some kind of skill you have wether that's burping the ABC's or being able to spit water at great distances!
Here's a special video all about finding your talent and how to use it!
!IMPORTANT MESSAGE! Coming up soon I'll be creating a podcast where I interview someone about their unique talent! Want that to be you? Send me an email and see if you can be a part of the podcast!

Catching Food
Today's talent is very similar to the first talent featured on this blog!
Name: Sarah Miller
Age: 18
Talent: Catching food in my mouth
How did you learn/discover the talent: I was at summer camp when I was 11 and they had a contest to see who could catch the most stuff in their mouth and I entered just for fun and I ended up winning.
What do you call it: Catching food in my mouth
How would you explain it to someone who wants to learn it: It's all in the toss. You have to have a toss that is up and towards your face with enough altitude to give you time to position your mouth underneath the object. Then when you are catching it you have to have your eyes open the whole time, you can't close then until it's in your mouth. Also hold your mouth open enough so that the object doesn't bounce off your teeth.Sarah Miller is a first year sophomore at Washburn University. She's majoring in Mass Media: Journalism and hopes to enter the media field after graduating. In this video she tosses whoppers into the air and catches them in her mouth!

Sarah Palin Voice
I thought it was time I told all of you my personal talent!
Name: Vinyl Anderton
Age: 19
Talent: Sarah Palin Impersonation
How did you learn/discover the talent: In 5th grade, during the election, I was an avid Obama supporter. I didn't really understand politics yet but I thought I did. I learned that I could do a pretty good Northern/Alaskan accent and would put my hair up like Palin's and wear glasses and do 'comedy routines' for my family.
What do you call it: Sarah Palin Voice
How would you explain it to someone who wants to learn it: You really just have to search out videos of her or of Northerns and try to really develop a voice that matches theirs. Accents can be hard, and I can't do many, this is one of the few I can pull off well.
I'm currently a freshman Mass Media: Film and Video major at Washburn University. In my free time I still use this voice to develop skits and routines as Palin but due to her no longer being a part of a major political campaign it's harder for people to get the jokes and find her funny so it's mostly just for fun at this point.

Burpology
Name: Izzy Benner
Age: 18
Talent: Burping
How did you learn/discover the talent: I've always had the ability, and it's something my father is pretty good at too. From a young age I was able to produce loud and horrifying burps and slowly I was able to learn to control it and produce these burps on command.
What do you call it: Burpology
How would you explain it to someone who wants to learn it: You just gotta be born with the power, man. If you really wanna try to learn then just try drinking a lot of carbonated beverages and almost pulling the burp out of your body with your lungs, but be careful because you don't wanna puke.
Izzy Benner is a senior in high school and a part of the IB Diploma program. She's been involved in From Couch to 5K, theatre, volleyball, and other school activities. She avidly burps in her free time and enjoys finding newer and more interesting ways to burp on command. Here's a quick video collection of her burping. Viewer discretion is advised for those who don't like burping.
